چکیده

The application of Low Voltage Direct Current (LVDC) distribution systems have the potential to offer several advantages over the incumbent AC networks. LVDC systems are technically and economically viable in niche applications such as data centres and marine power systems, however they also have the potential to offer improvements in the power transfer capability of existing distribution cable assets, with the added advantage of enhanced controllability and reduced losses [1]. The application of LVDC in this field is still in a nascent stage of development and it is far from a business as usual solution for the Distribution Network Operators (DNOs). There is a lack of experience with installation, the commercial arrangements are not in place, and the standards necessary to configure, operate, and protect such new systems have yet to emerge. Proponents of DC distribution have previously conceptualised the integration of EV charging into future DC street lighting networks [2] and prototype AC charging units that conveniently attach to lighting columns are currently being tested [3],[4]. However, no literature examines the technical implementation of multiple EV charging units onto lighting networks with respect to existing cable specifications, protection and voltage drop standards. This paper demonstrates the viability of such systems and the performance advantages that DC distribution offers compared to AC in this integrated application.

Different Electric Vehicle Charging Strategies to avoid Reducing the Insulation Oil Lifetime of Distribution Transformers

Abstract: The widespread presence of uncontrolled electric vehicles causes overloading of distribution network equipment. One of these equipments is distribution transformer, which should pay attention to overloading and reducing lifetime of this equipment due to charging of electric vehicles. First, strategies have been proposed to investigate the effect of electric vehicle penetration level a...

Integrated Decision Making in Electric Vehicle and Charging Station Location Network Design

A major barrier in consumer adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) is ‘range anxiety,’ the concern that the vehicle will run out of power at an inopportune time. Range anxiety is caused by the current relatively low electric-only operational range and sparse public charging station infrastructure. Range anxiety may be significantly mitigated if EV manufacturers and charging station operators work ...

Providing a Method of Intelligent Charging of Electric Vehicles with Discrete Rates with the Aim of Flattening Load Profile and Reducing Number of Switching Times

From the point of view of network operation, the lack of proper management of electric vehicles in the network can change the load profile of the network and causes numerous peaks and valleys in it, which is not appropriate from the perspective of network operators. In this paper, an intelligent charging strategy in which according to the information recorded by drivers such as the length of th...
